A coordinate plane is a two-dimensional number line where the vertical line is called the y-axis
and the horizontal is called the x-axis.
These lines are perpendicular and intersect at their zero points. Each axis crosses the other at 0. The point where the axes
meet is called the origin. The axes divide the plane into four quadrants.
A pair of numbers used to locate a point on a coordinate plane is called an ordered
pair. An ordered pair is written in the form (x, y) where x is the x-coordinate and y is the y-coordinate.
An example coordinate plane is shown below, if you take the green point (2, 3), this represents a ordered pair where x = 2 and y = 3, x = 2 means from the origin, move right 2 points, y = 3 is telling is to move up 3 points.
